Louth chairman Padraic O’Connor has hailed the appointment of Pat McEnaney as the referee for his county’s encounter with Dublin in the qualifiers.

O’Connor also lamented the fact that someone like McEnaney wasn’t refereeing the Leinster final, believing that Louth would have been crowned champions if that had been the case.

“I have no doubt that if the likes of McEnaney had been refereeing last Sunday week that the Delaney Cup would be down in Dundalk or Drogheda or wherever we’d wanted it to be,” O’Neill said.

“He’s a good, strong referee who doesn’t take any messing. He has great respect from the players and is a man that clearly points out where a team might be going wrong.

“It’s an awful pity we haven’t more McEnaney’s in our midst because it’s fellas like that you want in charge of big games, who are fully in control.”
