There’s lots of cocaine being had on Inis Mor today… no wait, we mean raisins… as the annual Craggy Island TedFest gets underway.
It’s easily one of the more anticipated festivals of the year and revellers as far afield as the US and UK are making their way to Inis Mor this weekend to celebrate everything that is Fr. Ted. This year marks the sixth time that TedFest has been held on the island and there’s a lot at stake.
Inis Mor is, for a short time at least, being transformed into the iconic Craggy Island and the festivities include the famous (to fans of Fr. Ted at least) Craggy Cup. The Craggy Cup will see the ‘Craggy Island’ priestly football team take on a visiting team of priests from the Isle of Man.
However, the highlight of the weekend will take place later on tonight as the Lovely Girls competition gets underway.
To make the experience even more enjoyable, Rob Morgan, Dermot Morgan’s son will be helping to host the festival and he will step into his late fathers shoes to judge the Lovely Girls competition.
“It’s a great coincidence that the festival takes place around the anniversary of dad’s death,” said Rob. “On a weekend like this, I’d rather be out here celebrating his life instead of sitting at home mourning his death.”
Rob plans to take the Fr. Ted experience on the road for the Euros, so if you’re on your way to Poland then make sure to keep an eye out for a caravan packed full of pale skinned priests.
