Major players in the gaming industry are making their way over to Ireland in order to find the best new talent in the sector. Well, at least they know where to look.

Six of the world’s leading game developers are coming to the Gibson Hotel in the Docklands this Wednesday, looking to hire the best Irish developers they can find.

The developers coming over looking for employees include Electronic Arts, Activision Blizzard, Big Fish Games, Havok, PopCap Games and Microsoft.

All of them are looking to hire people for various roles, so if you’re anything from a developer to a marketer and you’re interested in gaming then you’d better get down to the Gibson on Wednesday.

Barry O’Neill, the chairman of Games Ireland, told the Irish Independent: “It’s a very competitive market for jobs at the moment. We want people who are working in IT or other areas to see that their skills are transferable to the games industry.”

According to Mr O’Neill, there are already 2,500 jobs in the Irish gaming sector and the event in the Gibson Hotel on Wednesday will also showcase five Irish gaming start ups.

“We need a vibrant start-up community,” Mr O’Neill said. “It’s the only way we will ever develop our own big games maker.”

With the gaming sector being worth €50bn a year, jobs in the gaming sector is exactly what this country needs.
