Former Mayo manager John Maughan has said that he has no interest in replacing John O’Mahony as manager of the county’s senior football team.

Maughan guided his native county to two All-Ireland final appearances in 1996 and 2004 and has also had spells in charge of Clare, Fermanagh and Roscommon.

Maughan is the bookies’ favourite to replace O’Mahony, but insists that he has no interest in the position, at least not for a few years yet.

“As I said before, I’d like to get back into county management in a few years – but not right now. If the Mayo county board were to offer me the position, I’d have to decline politely. Keep your money in your pocket,” he said.

James Horan, Pat Holmes and Kenneth Mortimer are among the other names linked to the post, while Noel Connelly, Liam McHale and Ray Dempsey have ruled themselves out of contention.
