Down star Daniel McCartan is suspended for eight weeks following his red card in the NFL Division 2 final against Armagh.

Down star Daniel McCartan has received an eight-week suspension from the game following a hearing at the Central Hearing Committee.

McCartan was sent off in Down’s National Football League Division 2 final against Armagh for stamping on an opponent. The ban was originally proposed by the Central Competitions Control Committee but McCartan objected, which led to the hearing.

The Mourne defender will now miss their championship opener with Donegal on May 30 and a possible Ulster semi-final against Tyrone or Antrim.

A statement from Croke Park read: “The Central Hearings Committee did not find the video evidence submitted sufficiently compelling to contradict the contents of the Referees’ Report and suspended Daniel McCartan for 8 weeks from the date of the game.”
