Rory McIlroy’s Quail Hollow success has catapulted him into a new dimension and his decision to join the USPGA Tour has been justified.

The victory sent out a warning sign to the top players on the Tour that the Holywood starlet means business and McIlroy is enjoying the experience.

“To get that win proved to a lot of people, probably including myself, that it was the right decision.

“I’m excited to be back playing in Europe – it’s great playing in America but it’s always nice to get back home,” he added.

McIlroy felt that the pressure to be accepted on the Tour had been lurking since he made the switch from Europe but the win was all-important to his fitting in.

“I struggled at the start of the year and when you go over as a European and you join the Tour sometimes you don’t feel part of the Tour until you win or you have been there for a while.

“I haven’t played in the UK since October so it’s nice to see everyone and come back to familiar surroundings.”
