Galway football captain Michael Meehan has been ruled out of his county’s qualifier with Wexford this weekend.
Meehan had only returned to the side as a substitute for the drawn game against Sligo in Pearse Stadium as a substitute, having been absent for over three months with a knee injury.
He started the replay in Markievicz Park last weekend but was forced to withdraw at half time after damaging ligaments in his ankle.
Even if Joe Kernan’s side overcome the Model County on Saturday, Meehan may miss out on the following fixture as the forward has forecast a few weeks on the sidelines.
“I got the injury scanned on Monday and while it is just a sprain it could take a few weeks,” said Meehan.
“I will definitely not play against Wexford and if we get through I will just have to wait and see if it has recovered for the following week.”
