Nigeria midfielder Mikel John Obi is the latest star player to miss out on the World Cup through injury.
Mikel has been omitted from the Nigeria squad following an aggravated knee injury and joins fellow Chelsea team-mates Michael Ballack and Michael Essien on the sidelines for the World Cup.
Didier Drogba is also a major doubt to take part in the finals after suffering a fractured elbow in a warm-up match for the Ivory Coast against Japan yesterday.
Also, England defender Rio Ferdinand will not feature in South Africa following knee ligament damage sustained in a training session with the squad. The Manchester United’s place has been taken by Michael Dawson and the captaincy has been transferred to Steven Gerrard.
For entertainment purposes let’s hope there are not too many more star players ruled out of the tournament.
