This year’s big freeze is finally upon us and motorists are being warned to watch out for slippery untreated surfaces.
If you’re planning any outdoor activities this weekend then you’d want to wrap up, as Met Éireann says temperatures are set to drop below freezing. Tonight, we will see temperatures dropping to between 0 and -3C, which is sure to cause some heavy fog-like conditions tomorrow morning.
Motorists are being warned to drive with care, as many roads have not yet been treated for the impending cold snap and black ice could form as a result. All in all, it’s going to be a very cold weekend with heavy rain hitting the south and east of the country tomorrow night.
This rain should hopefully clear the south by Sunday morning leaving the east and northeast with some scattered showers but mostly clear, cold and dry weather.
Met Éireann has said that temperatures are set to stay below normal for the next 10 days and nights, while frost is likely to occur on these nights. So you may want to get up five minutes earlier in the mornings in order to scrape the ice off of your car windows.
