Donegal ace Michael Murphy has denied he has any interest of playing in Australia’s AFL – for now.
Murphy captains the Donegal under-21’s in the All-Ireland final against Dublin on Saturday night in Cavan and says he wants to stay put.
The rumours first spread when Murphy attended an Aussie-rules training camp as an invite from agent Ricky Nixon in Gormanstown in Meath.
But the Glenfin youngster says he was just “curious†and he added: “There’s been nothing, absolutely nothing in my mind that’s changed.
“I want to stay here and to keep playing football for Donegal and try to get my degree at college. Until there’s more interest from them I’m going to keep enjoying my football here.”
As for Saturday, Donegal are in their first All-Ireland final since 1992 and Murphy insists he doesn’t feel the pressure despite the hype surropunding him as a rising star in the game.
“It’s a massive game, any All-Ireland final is a massive game,” he said. “Every player who runs out on the field on Saturday evening, it will be something that they’ve all dreamt of.
“I wouldn’t feel there’s any big pressure on me. With this team, there’s leaders all over the pitch. Every man knows when they go out on the pitch they need to get their individual performances right. If we do that, hopefully it will get us there.”
