The SIMI recently launched the SIMI Autosure Professional Register, a new scheme which will professionalise car servicing in Ireland, making it much safer.
Most of us don’t have the luxury of buying a brand new car when our old one breaks down, and when that happens a trip to the mechanic is in order. However, how can you be sure that the work being carried out on your beloved motor is being done so professionally and competently?
If you see something that’s too good to be true then it probably is. And the same goes for car servicing. If you see a cheap deal on a car service it’s probably because they’re cutting corners somewhere. Thankfully, the SIMI Autosure Professional Register (SIMI APR) hopes to stamp out all the chancers out there, who, at the end of the day, have your life in their hands.
President of SIMI, Gerry Caffrey says, “There has been a big increase in untrained and illegal operators at the fringes of our Industry offering to service cars.
“While it may seem like a bargain at the time, often the work carried out by such operators is to a poor standard, which could leave a car in a dangerous condition and the owner out of pocket when something goes wrong with their car.
“Getting the SIMI APR sticker on your car will be a stamp of quality; an assurance that the car was maintained to the highest possible standard, by the highest qualified technicians in the Industry”.
Under the new SIMI APR scheme, the customer will receive an information leaflet after the service has been carried out and information on the specific work carried out on their vehicle. So make sure to look out for the SIMI APR logo when you go to get your next service.
