The Nigerian national football team has been suspended by its own government from international competition for the next two years.
President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, was incensed by the Super Eagle’s poor performance in the World Cup that he felt he had to take drastic action.
“Mr. President has directed that Nigeria will withdraw from all international football competition for the next two years to enable Nigeria to re-organise its football,†Ima Niboro, a special adviser to Goodluck Jonathan, told reporters.
Nigeria finished bottom of their group, and lost to Greece and Argentina. Their only point came in a 2-2 draw against South Korea.
The Super Eagles will now miss the next two African Nation’s Tournaments, set to take place in 2012 and 2013.
