Nike’s new season highlights

Nike have launched a new sportswear collection which brings together some iconic items of running apparel to give a seriously retro look.

Nike Sportswear’s Autumn/Winter 2010 collection takes its influences from vintage running apparel and the uniforms of running clubs, most notably Nike’s Athletics West running club which dates back to 1977.

Nike have brought together some iconic items of running apparel, and have slightly reinvented them for the style consumer.

Our favourite item from the collection is the AW77 Hoody (picture No.1 in the gallery above), the original uniform of the Athletics West Running club of 1977 which was designed to help the Athletics’ West athletes perform better.

In fact, the American frat look figures big, with t-shirts embossed with the Greek lettering associated with fraternity houses evoking just about every US teen flicks set on college campuses.

The nylon jackets in the range have a serious retro feel, to the extent that they wouldn’t look out of place in Back to the Future, Grease or West Side Story.

Also part of the Autumn/Winter 2010 collection is the Nike Air Max 1 ND, which is re-released in a range of eye-catching new colour schemes.

In 1987, Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Max Running Shoe. The visible airbag and lightweight engineering ensured its status as an icon of sports footwear.
