Senator David Norris looks to be in a bit of financial hot water as he could be heading to court over an unpaid campaign bill.
Senator Norris is in a dispute with one of his former campaign advisers over an unpaid bill incurred from his failed election attempt, reports the Sunday Independent.
The public relations firm ‘Paul Allen and Associates Public Relations’ is seeking a payment of €30,000 for services conducted during Norris’ election attempt last year.
We already know from documents released in December that two payments totalling €61,710 were made to Mr Allen’s firm. However, a further amount of €30,008 is now being disputed between the parties.
Speaking to the Sunday Independent, Senator Norris confirmed the dispute and ‘hinted’ that it could be going to the courts to decide, “Yes, there is an issue and the court records will reflect it.”
Figures released by the Standards in Public Office (Sipo) show that Norris is in a bit of a hole when it comes to his campaign expenses. During the failed campaign, Norris spent €331,974 while only receiving €17,929 in donations from the public.
As he failed to gain 12 per cent of first round votes, Norris misses out on €200,000 that is available to failed candidates as a refund from the taxpayer. He now has to incur the full burden of debt, all by himself.
He probably wishes he didn’t spend €1,300 on pottery during his campaign.
