Aidan O’Brien’s Cape Blanco stormed into the Epsom Derby picture with an impressive victory in the Dante Stakes at York on Thursday.

The Galileo colt extended his 100 per cent record to four with a three-and-a-quarter length victory on the Knavesmire.

Sent off an unconsidered 9/2 fourth-favourite of the five runners, Cape Blanco was confidently ridden by Johnny Murtagh en route to success in the Group 2 event.

He has now been installed as second favourite for the Epsom feature in three weeks’ time, behind O’Brien stablemate St Nicholas Abbey.
