Edinburgh 13-16 Munster
Donncha O’Callaghan scored a try within a minute of coming off the bench to help Munster to a narrow victory over Edinburgh in the Magners League on Friday night.
Tony McGahan’s side made it two wins from two in the competition after a closely fought encounter at Murrayfield, with Irish internationals Tomás O’Leary and Ronan O’Gara also playing significant roles after coming on as substitutes.
Munster led 6-3 after a first half during which they looked the more threatening side. Paul Warwick landed two penalties in the opening 40 minutes with one penalty from Chris Paterson in reply.
Edinburgh took the lead five minutes after the break, however, after Tim Visser’s try was converted by Chris Paterson, but Munster didn’t have to wait long for a response when O’Callaghan charged over the line in the 56th minute after Ian Dowling was held up a yard short.
Paterson levelled the scores with a penalty six minutes later, but Munster fought back and claimed a deserved win after Ronan O’Gara landed another penalty with 13 minutes left on the clock.
