The Dublin bike scheme has been peddling hard for the past three years and now finally it’s to get a well-deserved expansion.
So it has been three years since the hugely successful Dublin bike scheme hit the streets of our capital and Dublin City Council has finally decided an expansion is in order.
Initially, they want to treble the number of bikes in circulation (sounds like the drug squad should be informed) from 500 to 1,500 and they want to more than double the number of stands where they can accessed from – from 44 to 100.
The new bike stations will pop up in the Docklands to begin with and they will then move west towards Heuston Station.
This will be the first phase of a five-year expansion plan which will hopefully see the number of bikes rise to 5,000 and the number of stands to around 300. The Council also hopes to move the bikes further out away from the city.
But will the bikes be coming your way? Well, by the end of the expansion process, the Dublin bike scheme will be located as far as DCU to the north of the city, UCD to the south, Inchicore to the west and Sandymount to the east.
