If the major of Paris has his way cars older than 17-years will not be allowed into the centre of Paris. He must have something against the classics.
Now, banning old as sh*t cars from a city centre might seem like a fairly reasonable idea, especially if you’re one of those ‘hug the trees’ types. But banning old cars from the centre of Paris would be like banning Da Vinci paintings from The Louvre.
Back in the day, the old Citroen DS and the 2CV were both engineering marvels and seriously popular machines at the time – not forgetting Renault and Peugeot. They we’re probably the best things to come out of France until Melanie Laurent and Marion Cotillard came along.
Nevertheless, if Paris mayor Bertrand Delanoë has his way, cars made before 1995 will not be allowed within the A86 AutoRoute that surrounds the city centre. His new regulation would also prohibit motorbikes that were made before 2004 and busses that were older than 18-years.
However, petrolheads will be glad to know that the proposal is not without it’s critics. Many believe Delanoë and his cronies should look into the affects of diesel fuel as a cause for pollution and not just older cars.
If he does get the proposal in we could well see the same happening here. But it’s as if we built any classic cars before 1995 so it won’t be as bad…
