Everyone’s favourite family-owned electronics shop is to close once and for all.
A little over a year ago we brought you the news that Peats ‘World of Electronics’ was to close after 78 years in business. Then, in a Lazarus-style move the business announced that it was to reopen some of its stores with Chairman Ben Peat saying: “I can only describe as phenomenal the reaction that we received after we made the closure announcement.”
Well, all good things must come to an end as the company has just announced the loss of 22 jobs, stating that the business will close with immediate effect.
Speaking to staff at the company’s flagship Parnell Street store Chairman Ben Peat said, “It is with great sadness and regret that we have had to make this decision, but we have been left with no other options.
“Unfortunately, the sector in which we operate has been disproportionately adversely affected by the economic downturn and despite the best efforts of myself and my fellow directors, including a remodelling of the business last year, we simply cannot continue in this climate.”
The Peats.com website features the whole statement and customers with outstanding orders can contact Peats via email on admin@peats.com or via telephone on 01 878 4057.
