You might well have guessed it already, but this Irish soccer player has proved that a dislocated foot with a spiral fracture of the tibia is as horrific as it sounds.

When part of your foot is pointing in the wrong direction, you know fairly quickly that something is seriously wrong and Alan Meehan can certainly vouch for that.

Alan is a mechanic in Melbourne, where he has been for the past five years and is involved with his local soccer team Watsonia Heights, when the terrible incident occurred during a training session.

With his left foot planted in the ground, when he made a turning movement, but unfortunately for him, his left foot stayed where it was and he suffered a dislocation and a fracture of the tibia. And because the ankle was dislocated, they had to set that before they could work on the fracture.

His sister Linda has told us that Alan was awake for the relocating of his ankle and is now the the proud owner of a steel rod and seven screws.

Here is the grim aftermath.

An all-round sportsman, Alan is also black belt 2nd dan in Kenpo & also a brown belt in Samurai (Bushi) and Linda says she has given her brother a new nickname of ‘Kickass’ given his current plight. Nothing like sibling sympathy.

Though we shouldn’t be surprised of his sporting pedigree given the fact his grandfather is a former Irish international, having played played in a World Cup qualifier in 1934.

We wish Alan a speedy recovery from the awful injury.

Hat-tip to @LindyMean for the prognosis.

Thanks to Alan for sending this in. Alan is now in with a shot of winning €250 by the end of the month.
