UEFA president Michel Platini was released from hospital in Johannesburg on Saturday morning after fainting in a restaurant on Friday night.
Platini, who was believed to have been dining with former France and Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier and UEFA technical director Andy Roxburgh, collapsed in the restaurant and was immediately taken to hospital by ambulance.
Platini, who had been suffering from flu, underwent a series of tests which showed there to be no medical problems.
FIFA and UEFA released a joint statement this morning which read: “Michel Platini, UEFA president, was released at 9am this morning from the hospital in Johannesburg where he was admitted last night after feeling unwell.
“All the medical tests conducted were normal and Mr Platini is looking forward to attending the final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup tomorrow in Soccer City stadium.â€
It had been suggested that Platini had suffered a heart attack, but this was quickly denied by UEFA.
“Contrary to some media reports, no signs of any heart-related problems have been found,” UEFA said last night.
