If you rely on public transport then you’ll have to dig a little deeper into your pockets as fares on both Irish Rail and Dublin Bus are set to rise.
Irish Rail passengers will have to fork out a little extra on some fares as prices increase from today, while Dublin Bus users will face paying out more later on in the month. Over 140 of Irish Rail’s fares will see an increase, with Intercity journeys bearing the brunt.
However, according to the Irish Examiner, 66 fare bands will actually see a decrease in price while 15 fares will remain unchanged. For more on which fares will see an increase, check out the Irish Rail website here.
Barry Kenny, a spokesman for Irish Rail, said the changes needed to happen.
Meanwhile, in the capital, Dublin Bus has also announced that it will be increasing the prices of its pre-paid cards from February 19. Commuters can expect an average increase of more than 4 per cent on their ticket. We bet you’re as delighted as we are.
However, if you buy the Travel 90 or 10-journey adult travel card then you’ll be faced with shelling out another 13.2 per cent for your ticket as prices jump from €19 to €21.50.
Nice to see they got in there ahead of the Six Nations match this weekend.
