Last week we heard the news that Ray D’Arcy tripped up over a lamppost stub and broke his nose in the process. Well, now he wants compensation.

If you were on your way to work and you broke your nose would you soldier on and present a radio show to the whole nation, or would you go home and milk as much sympathy from the missus as possible? If the latter sounds more like you then you obviously aren’t Ray D’Arcy.

Recently, the weekday morning DJ was told how he will need reconstructive surgery on his broken nose or face a lifetime of breathing problems, headaches and infections – which doesn’t sound fun.

Speaking about the incident to his listeners, Ray said: “It is bent but I am not worried about the aesthetics. My doctor assures me if I leave the septum I’ll have sinus problems in the future.

“It was bad. There is going to be legal action. I have decided now.”

According to The Irish Sun, fiancée Jenny Kelly urged him to go to court and to give any future pay-out to a good cause, which seems like the type of thing Ray would do anyway.

“When I told Jenny I had to have an operation, she said, ‘Now it’s serious, get a solicitor’s letter in to those people.

“I’m not litigious. I don’t feel right about doing that. But it could have been worse and you have to ensure it doesn’t happen to someone else.”

So the next time you leave work early after scraping your knee, just think of Ray.
