Lewis Hamilton captured his first Grand Prix of the season in Turkey on Sunday afternoon, but he was handed victory on a plate after Red Bull duo Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber collided during lap 40 of the 58 lap race.
Vettel was attempting to overtake his Red Bull team mate but crashed into Webber, forcing Vettel out of the race completely while Webber was overtaken by Hamilton and McLaren team mate Jenson Button.
Hamilton and Button exchanged the lead during the remaining laps, but Hamilton managed to finish ahead of last year’s World Champion, while Webber had to be content with third place.
Mercedes duo Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg finished fourth and fifth respectively, while Ferrari pair Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso finished in seventh and eighth behind ‘s Renault’s Robert Kubica in sixth.
Webber remains ahead of Button and Hamilton at the top of the driver’s standings but McLaren are now a point ahead of Red Bull in the constructor’s standings.
