Remember the story of the priest who projected images of gay porn during a First Communion meeting with local parents? Well, turns out he destroyed the evidence after all.
Earlier in the month, we brought you the story of Fr. Martin McVeigh, the Catholic priest who ‘somehow’ projected images of gay pornography during a holy First Communion meeting with some local parents. At the time it was reported that the computer, which held the images, had been stolen during an investigation. How convenient, eh?
Well now Irish Central is reporting that Fr. Martin McVeigh has actually admitted to destroying the USB stick which held the images. So that explains what happened to the images, but what happened to the ‘stolen’ computer?
However, even after admitting to destroying the evidence, Fr. Martin McVeigh issued a statement on Sunday assuring parishioners in the diocese of Pomeroy that he was not responsible for the presence of the offending images in his PowerPoint presentation.
According to him, the USB stick was actually used by a number of people, so the images could have been saved onto the USB by any number of people.
Surely he should have handed over the USB stick so the saved data could be tracked back to the one offending computer? If he actually was innocent that is. Then again, we’re not tech geniuses or anything.
“After the images were inadvertently shown, I immediately removed the memory stick from the laptop. In my shock and upset and in my concern to ensure that the images would never be shown again, I destroyed it later that evening,” said the priest.
He added: “I appreciate that the incident was very serious in nature and caused much anxiety and distress, particularly to those who were present on the evening in question and I apologise unreservedly for the hurt caused.”
