The Thierry Henry handball has not deterred Irish car buyers from dealing with the French. Renault has topped the scrappage polls for the month of May with over 1,350 reclaims made by new Renault owners under the government scrappage scheme.
Renault Ireland leads the scrappage table with 18%, followed by Ford at 15% and Skoda at 10%. In all there were 7368 reclaims made, according to statistics compiled by Revenue.
Renault introduced its own scrappage scheme in September 2009 months before the Government’s own scheme was announced and offered double scrappage on all cars of eight years and over.
The French car manufacturers also offered attractive trade-in allowances on all brands and models. The company extended its own scrappage scheme which is still available to new car buyers with cars of eight years and older.
“The Renault scrappage scheme coupled with the government scrappage has certainly shown a big improvement in our orders for 2010. We are very happy to be number one for scrappage in May and are delighted to be offering cleaner, safer, more economical cars to the Irish public at very affordable prices,” said Eric Basset, Managing Director of Renault Ireland.
