Bee Gees legend, Robin Gibb, lost a lengthy battle against cancer late last night aged just 62.
If there’s one thing you can’t deny, it’s that the Bee Gees were masters at making a seriously catchy tune. You can say what you like about the clothes and the hair (sure it was the style at the time) but tunes like ‘Night Fever’ and ‘Stayin’ Alive’ will live on as some of the ultimate disco tunes ever released. With that in mind it’s sad to see one of the masters behind those classic songs dying at such a young age.
Last night at 10.46pm, the official Robin Gibb website released the following statement: “Sunday 20 May, 2012 at 10:46 pm: The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time”.
There has already been a wave of supporting comments flooding the twittersphere over the past few hours with Joe Soaps and celebrities all giving their goodbyes to Gibb. His brother Barry (the beardy one) is now the only surviving member of the band.
This would be the perfect opportunity to make some sort of ‘Stayin’ Alive’ joke… but we’re not like that. Instead, you can enjoy the classic 70’s song below:
