Sixth seed Andy Roddick has crashed out of the French Open after suffering a shock straight sets defeat to Russian qualifier, Teimuraz Gabashvili.

Roddick’s preparations for the event had been hampered by illness and injury and he was second best throughout in the 4-6, 4-6, 2-6 defeat to Gabashvili, who is ranked 114 in the world.

Roddick has never performed well at the French Open; his best performance at Roland Garros was a last sixteen defeat to Gael Monfils last year.
