Andy Roddick survived a scare against Frenchman Michael Llodra before coming through his second round match at Wimbledon.

Last year’s runner up and number five seed Roddick dropped the first set against Llodra but hit back for a 4-6 6-4 6-1 7-6 win on Centre Court.

The match last two hours and 23 minutes and featured 48 aces, 25 of which came from Roddick.

All the seeds in action in the men’s draw came through unscathed, with Lleyton Hewitt, Julian Melzer, Gael Monfils and Feliciano Lopez all advancing to the third round.

It was a similar situation in the womens’ singles, with Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters, Nadia Petrova, Maria Kirilenko and Justine Henin all winning their second round contests in straight sets.

Eleventh seed Marion Bartoli was given a free run into the third round when her opponent Petra Martic withdrew.

The only seed to bow out early in the day was Israeli number 13 seed Shahar Peer, who went down in three sets to Angelique Kerber of Germany.
