We knew that this was coming for a while now, but Samsung wowed the tech world yesterday by officially unveiling the Galaxy tablet computer and the specs are truly drool worthy.
We won’t bore you with the most intimate technical details but some of the highlights of the new tablet are as follows:
- It runs Android 2.2 with all the Flash goodness the iPad is lacking.
- 7-inch screen with a HD resolution
- Weighs 380 grams
- It’s as thin as the iPad
- 16GB or 32GB internal storage with a microSD expansion for up to 32GB additional    storage
- A front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera and a rear 3 megapixel camera with flash
- A robust battery that Samsung claim will match the iPad
- 3G that supports both data and voice
- 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth and a speaker/microphone.
- Full HD video playback on the device and output through the optional HDMI port
Samsung have yet to put a price on the tablet, but anything under the €499 asking price of the iPad will equal big win for consumers and deliver some much needed competition into the tablet market.
Launch plans have yet to be locked down but we do know that the Galaxy will launch this year and that it will launch in Europe first. Let’s hope that Europe means Ireland as well because as we saw with the iPad launch, sometimes that isn’t always the case.
