Nicolas Sarkozy is set to hold a government meeting to discuss France’s dreadful World Cup.
Francois Fillon (Prime Minister), Roselyne Bachelot (Minister for Sport) and Rama Yade (Junior Minister for Sport) will meet with Sarkozy to discuss how France, having won the World Cup in 1998 and reached the final in 2006, could manage just one point and a single goal in South Africa.
The French president will also, at the request of the players, meet up with Thierry Henry on Thursday.
“Those responsible for this disaster must accept the consequences, first the players, then the team management and after them the football federation,” Bachelot told Europe 1 radio on Wednesday
One of those who might be in trouble is Nicolas Anelka, who was sent home having allegedly called manager Raymond Domenech a “son of a whore†at half time during their loss to Mexico. His ejection from the squad prompted a team strike last weekend.
The French Football Federation (FFF) has also promised to hold an inquiry in July, where Patrice Evra has promised to reveal details of what happened.
“I promise to tell the truth about every minute of what I went through,” he said. “French people need to know the truth because the France team belongs to them and nobody else.â€
