Scan reveals extent of injury for Liverpool star Torres

It has been confirmed that Fernando Torres is suffering from a ruptured thigh muscle, and not a torn hamstring as was first feared.

It has been confirmed that Fernando Torres suffered a ruptured thigh muscle in the World Cup final on Sunday.

The Spanish football federation announced in a statement on its website that Torres had a magnetic resonance scan on at the Cemtro de Madrid Clinic on Tuesday and a Grade 1 muscle fibre rupture in the left thigh was discovered.

The 26-year-old was injured against the Netherlands, and it was initially feared that he had suffered suffered a serious hamstring injury.

The results of the scan will be sent to the Anfield club and it is likely Torres will miss the start of the new Premier League seaon next month.
