Luxembourg’s Andy Schleck won Sunday’s eighth stage of the Tour de France and Cadel Evans of Australia took over the race leader’s yellow jersey following a dramatic day in the mountains.
Schleck pipped Spain’s Samuel Sanchez in a sprint finish in Morzine at the end of a difficult day in the Alps.
Evans, who finished in a group of big hitters just ten seconds back, claimed the yellow jersey from Sylvain Chavanel, with Luxembourg youngster Schleck now just 20 seconds back in second place.
Two-time winner Alberto Contador is now 1:01 back in third place with Team Sky’s Bradley Wiggins in 14th place, 2:45 behind Evans.
However, one big name definitely out of contention is seven-time champion Lance Armstrong, who lost more than ten minutes on the day after crashing three times.
