Manchester United legend Paul Scholes is expected to hang up his boots and move into coaching at the end of next season.

Scholes declined an invitation from head coach Fabio Capello to return to the England squad on the eve of the current World Cup tournament.

The 35-year-old has made almost 450 first-team appearances in a 16-year Manchester United career, winning nine league titles, two Champions League medals and three FA Cups.

However, he admits he has put plans in place for retirement next summer.

Quoted in the Daily Mail, he said, “I am coming to the end of my playing career and I maybe have one year left.

“I have started doing my coaching badges back in England and hopefully one day I will be able to coach kids or coach some kind of team somewhere.”
