The crime prevention charity Crimestoppers have sent out thousands of scratch and sniff weed scented cards to households, but they won’t get you high… sadly.
The strange smelling move is being tightly rolled out by Crimestoppers in the hopes that it will help people to sniff out neighbouring grow houses.
Householders are being urged to look out for gaffs that always have the blinds closed and windows constantly shut. The charity said there has been a 15% rise in the number of cannabis farms found in homes between 2011 and 2012.
The biggest ‘cannabis hotspots’ in the UK were noted to be Leeds, Sheffield, Bristol and London, all of which are sure to enjoy an influx of tourists for no particular reason at all… cough.
The card comes with a scratch and sniff section that smells like weed and eight signs to look out for if you think there’s something dodgy going on next door…
1. Strong and sticky sweet smell
2. Cannabis growing equipment
3. Constantly covered or blocked off windows
4. Visitors at unsociable hours
5. Strong and constant lighting day and night
6. High levels of head and condensation
7. Constant buzzing
8. Lots of cables
So, judging by the ‘things to look out for’, if you live in, or beside, student accommodation then don’t be surprised if there’s a visit by the Garda dog unit sometime soon.
