Caster Semenya has been left out of South Africa’s team for this month’s African Athletics Championship in Nairobi, Kenya on 28 July.
Semenya had been cleared to race after completing gender tests but Athletics South Africa (ASA) decided that she wasn’t fit enough to compete.
The 19-year-old world 800m champion had missed eleven months of competitive action, with her last race back in August 2009, when she was victorious at the world championships in Berlin
The ASA have stated, however, that she will be in consideration for a place in South Africa’s team for the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in October.
“Semenya will work towards reaching peak condition in order to be a part of the action at the Commonwealth Games,” the ASA said.
