Henry Shefflin is in line for a place in the starting line-up for next weekend’s All-Ireland final against Tipperary after taking a full part in training on Wednesday night.
Shefflin looked set to miss the clash after severing the cruciate ligament in his knee during the Cats’ semi-final victory over Cork three weeks ago.
Earlier this week, Kilkenny manager Brian Cody said that it would be a ‘miracle’ if Shefflin and John Tennyson, who is also suffering with a cruciate ligament injury, could play a part in the final.
“We’re talking miracles here,†he said.
“That’s really it. They’re getting treatment and it’s in the lap of the gods.”
“To have a hope of playing they need to be training flat out this week, to be considered for an All-Ireland final they’ll have to prove their fitness,” he added.
Both players came through the session on Wednesday night unscathed, however, as did Kilkenny’s other injury doubts, Tommy Walsh and Richie Power, as the squad trained in front of 8,000 supporters at Nowlan Park.
There was some bad news for Kilkenny, however, after Brian Hogan suffered a suspected broken finger during the session, making him a major doubt for the decider on Sunday week.
