Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua pulled off a massive upset in UFC 113 last night by knocking out the much fancied and previously undefeated Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida in the first round of their light heavyweight bout.
The all-Brazilian clash, which took place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, was the second time the pair met inside the octagon. The first meeting, at UFC 104, ended with a unanimous decision in favour of the Dragon.
However, the five round war was not to be repeated as Rua stopped his opponent at 3.35 of the first round after some devastating punching. Shogun took his record to 19 wins and 4 losses while Machida now has 16 wins and 1 defeat.
Marcus ‘The Irish Hand Grenade’ Davis meanwhile, dropped Jonathan Goulet with some clean hand work and combinations to win by TKO at 1:23 of the second round. The win took the rising star’s record to 22-7.
