The two Cork City branches of the video game retailer GAME are currently staging a sit-in protest because they haven’t been treated fairly after the announcement that the retailer is going into administration.
Seven staff at the St Patrick Street branch and nine at the Mahon Point Shopping Centre branch are making themselves comfortable and are refusing to allow stock to be removed from the stores.
VG24/7 reports that a store in Monaghan and one in Dublin are also getting ready to plonk themselves down inside their respective store.
A total of 14 Irish GAME outlets closed at lunchtime yesterday with a further 263 closing over in the UK.
MCV reports that the administrator assigned to GAME, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), will pay staff its March wages, but nothing for April or redundancy pay. Instead, it’s advising staff to claim state redundancy. That’s why GAME staff are a tad p*sed at how they’ve been treated.
In total 121 Irish employees lost their jobs because of the closure.
