The north and east coasts of the country will be a little chilly today thanks to sub-zero temperatures while snow is expected in many places throughout the country.

You may have experienced a light sprinkling of snow over the course of the night, well, that’s a sign of things to come over the next few days. The extremely cold weather will linger until around Thursday when temperatures are expected to rise.

According to Met Éireann, Dublin should be hit extra hard by the cold snap, especially in high lying areas. A large snowfall should hit the capital around midday today, which will then ease out into light snow flurries throughout the day.

High up in the mountains, snow fall is expected to hit 10cm while closer to the city, West Dublin (Lucan, Adamstown) may see as much as 3cm in snowfall.

The south of the country should experience the snowfall sometime between tonight and tomorrow afternoon, while the west should stay fairly dry, albeit cold. Drivers are being warned to take extra car on the roads, as there could be some black ice on the ground. Careful now… you’ve been warned.
