SkyCam proved its dangers at an American football game last weekend when a camera fell and almost took out a player after the cables snapped.

American footballers are use to the SkyCam flying above their heads by now, but it still has some unexpected tricks up its sleeve. In the final minutes of the Insight Bowl between the University of Iowa and the University of Oklahoma, Iowa wide receiver Marvin McNutt Jr looked to the heavens just at the right time.

“First, I looked: ‘What is it that fell from the sky?’” McNutt said. “The next thing I knew, the camera kind of scratched me a little bit. It was just pulling me and I knew I didn’t want to keep going with it.”

The video above of McNutt dodging the camera and getting caught up in the cords has gone viral overnight, however, we have to say, the commentators steal the show with their off the cuff remarks about the camera.

Firstly, they joke about the camera running of the pitch and they even use the virtual pen to point out an extremely p***ed off cameraman.

The game was only delayed for five minutes, which probably wasn’t the longest stoppage of the game and ESPN did apologise for their faulty camera saying in a statement, “As always our primary concern will be the safety of fans and those on the field”.

In case you’re wondering, Iowa lost 31-14.
