So we’re in for a sunny summer… next year that is

According to one of the country’s leading climate experts, Ireland should get a good sunny summer next year, which isn’t good news for the rest of this summer.

Can you remember the last time we got a full week of uninterrupted sunshine? Neither can we. But according to Professor John Sweeney, director of the Irish Climate Analysis and Research Unit, the bad weather we’ve been receiving as of late is all thanks to a jet stream that just won’t budge.

Usually, these jet streams move around allowing for some decent weather from time to time, however, the current jet stream path has meant that the bad weather we’ve been having has actually been “locked” in place. So that explains why we’ve had crap summers for the last six years.

According to Professor Sweeney, the statistics show that we’re certainly in for a bout of good weather and we should hopefully see the weather improve over the next few years.

“Our climate models do suggest the jet stream will eventually move further to the north of Ireland giving us warmer and drier summers in the years ahead.”

So, if you’ve been holding onto hope that the summer was going to make a swift U-turn then you might want to think again.
