Spain sent a message to other World Cup hopefuls yesterday by hammering Poland 6-0 in their final pre-tournament warm-up game.
David Villa, David Silva, Cesc Fabregas, Xabi Alonso, Pedro all got on the score sheet, as did Fernando Torres who marked his return from injury with a goal in Murcia.
However, there was an injury scare for the European champions when Andres Iniesta was substituted due to a thigh muscle problem.
The 26-year-old Barcelona playmaker spent much of the season on the side-lines due to a similar injury.
According to reports in Sport.co.uk, the club’s sporting director Fernando Hierro described the move as a precaution. He continued, “He has a slight strain. He’s fine, it isn’t a problem.”
Spanish fans will be hoping that proves to be the case with just days left ahead of their opener against Switzerland on June 16.
