MANCHESTER CITY 0-1 TOTTENHAM

Spurs will play in next season’s Champions League thanks to their 1-0 win over Manchester City at Eastlands last night.

After missing a string of chances earlier in the game, Peter Crouch headed the winner when a Kaboul cross was palmed into his path by emergency stopper Marton Fulop.

It was all Manchester City in the early stages of the game as Bellamy and Tevez caused Spurs all sorts of problems – but Ledley King and goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes in particular were immense for Harry Redknapp’s side.

Spurs felt hard done by at half time when King had a headed effort ruled out for a foul on Gareth Barry, and Crouch had also hit the post with a diving header when Gareth Bale sent in a curling cross.

Both goalkeepers however had busy nights – and both pulled off some amazing saves in the second half.

Twenty minutes from time Bale played Defoe in and he should have scored – but his effort was brilliantly saved by Fulop.

Minutes later Lennon then crossed and both Defoe and Crouch stretched to poke it in but both missed it, and it looked as if it wouldn’t be Tottenham’s night.

Crouch then missed from seven yards when he headed Bale’s cross straight at his legs and it went clear.

But the big English striker finally broke the deadlock eight minutes from full-time – and substitute Roman Pavlyuchenko should have doubled their lead when he danced through and saw Fulop pull off another fine stop.

City were completely deflated by Crouch’s header and failed to muster a leveller, but nonetheless Spurs deserved it on the night.

In the other Premier League game, Stoke won 1-0 at Craven Cottage against Fulham as Etherington struck for the Potters.
