Attendance at STI clinics in Ireland have increased by 13%, according to the 2009 Gay Men’s Health Service annual report.
Many of these attendees had never previously had a HIV or syphilis blood test or STI screen. Of the 655 first-time attendees, 8.4% received STI diagnoses, 2.6% were given positive HIV diagnoses and 4.7% received a syphilis diagnosis.
The report was launched at the 8th All-Ireland Gay Health Forum last week, although clearly this an issue that affects straight men just as much as gay men.
