This story is either the epitome of manly D.I.Y. or it’s a pretty clever hoax, either way it’s still a good story.
The original version of this story is in French and as we all know by now, Google Translate isn’t the best at translating full stories, so bare with us.
Emile, originally from France, was travelling through the desert in Northern Africa when patrolling police suddenly stopped him. He was told not to go any further north due to military conflicts in the area, however, Emile didn’t listen and decided to loop around the roadblock and continue north anyway.
This would have been fine if it he was travelling on paved roads, however, Emile was on the ar*e roads to nowhere and after awhile of subjecting his 2CV’s suspension to the rocks and boulders of the desert, one of the swing arms snaps along with part of the chassis. Now if this happened to your or me, we’d be dead. Not Emile.
Instead of pondering where his life went wrong, Emile decided that the best thing to do was to disassemble his Citroen 2CV and make a motorcycle from the parts.
However, this is where things get a bit hazy for us. Firstly, he was in the desert for 12 days without tools to ‘build a motorbike’ and secondly, where was he getting his water? Something smells French fishy about this…
Either way, it’s still a pretty cool D.I.Y. story and at the end of the day, whether it was in the middle of the desert, or the back of a air conditioned workshop, someone still made a homemade bike out of car parts, Mad Max style.
