Strong winds forecast for midnight, you have been warned

If you’re heading out on the town tonight then you might want to wrap up as it looks set to be cold and blustery all night.

There’s nothing quite like ringing in the New Year with a few friends and a few pints but the weather can often dampen the spirits afterwards – especially in Ireland. Thankfully, it’s going to be dry across most of the country tonight with Met Éireann forecasting some slight rainfall in the northwest at midnight.

The rest of the country will stray nice and dry for the countdown but it will be quite windy along the west of the country and the eastern coast. As for the temperature, you might want to bring the hat and scarf just in case, as it’s expected to stay around 2-C to 0-C for most of the night.

It looks as though 2013 will kick off with some clear weather for anyone living in the midlands or on the east coast, but yet again the west will be hit with some light rain showers while the northwest looks set to get a bit of a soaking.

So enjoy yourself tonight and don’t forget to wrap up for the journey home.
