A 19-year-old engineering student from the UK managed to take photos of the earth after building himself a satellite for under €250.
NASA spends millions of dollars every year (or at least they did until recently) in order to send expensive satellites into space to take photographs of earth. However, there’s a college student over in the UK who managed to do the same thing for just £200 (€249.50).
Adam Cudworth from Ombersley, Worcestershire, bought a small Canon A570 from eBay for just £30 and then sent it 20 miles up into the earth’s atmosphere where it captured some truly stunning images of earth.
The camera was packed in a Styrofoam box which was then attached to a helium balloon. Once the balloon reached a height of 20.8 miles it burst and the camera came flying back to earth.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph the student said: “I have no background in astrophysics or anything like that, I’m just an engineering student.
“People think it’s something that costs millions of pounds, but I’ve proved you can do it on just a £200 budget.”
