Stun grenade fired at stadia protesters

The conflict between South African police and protesting security gaurds has escalated with reports of police firing a stun grenade at demonstrators.

The conflict between South African police and protesting security gaurds who walked off the job at Cape Town’s World Cup stadium in a dispute over pay has escalated dramatically with reports that police have fired a stun grenade at the demonstrators.

According to reports on South African television, some 10 arrests were made outside the offices of Stallion Security, the company which employed the protestors.

According to news agency, AFP, Police will be taking over security in stadia in Soccer City, Ellis Park, Cape Town and Durban.

The protest comes as the country marked the 34th anniversary of the Soweto uprising against apartheid rule.

Meanhile, some 3,000 people marched in Durban to denounce lavish spending by Fifa and the government while millions live in poverty.
