Ta-ra Tata.
Gerardo Martino is stepping down after a season in charge of Barcelona.
Following his side’s 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid, which handed the La Liga title to Diego Simeone’s side, Martino simply said: “I’m sorry I was unable to deliver. I’d like to thank the club for their confidence in me.”
The 51-year-old replaced the late Tito Vilanova last July.
“I deeply regret not having achieved the goals that this club has always been set and achieved,” Martino added.
“These are great players. My greatest gratitude goes to the players. They have made me proud.”
Martino won 40 of his 59 games in charge of the 2012-13 champions, but failed to deliver domestic or European success.
Barca’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta said: “We are grateful to ‘Tata’. This has been a tough season.”
Luis Enrique, who left his role as Celta Vigo coach last week, is the strong favourite to take charge at the Nou Camp next season.
